The echo rolled through the mansion like thunder, bouncing off stone walls and marble floors and high ceilings, filling every room, reaching every corner. And then silence crashed back in. Heavy. Absolute. Broken only by the baby's terrified crying

It wasn’t physical—it was musical. The melody of the world stuttered, as if two tones had struck at once and refused to resolve. And then she heard it—a hum beneath the harmony, low and wrong. An Echo stepped from the shadows of the valley. Unlike the others, its body was jagged, fragmented, edges flickering like broken glass. Its voice rasped through the air, discordant and sharp. > You let us live, it said, but you forgot what silence means. The ground trembled. Rivers rippled backward for a heartbeat.

Her expression was distant, almost sorrowful. Before I could blink, the image shifted again — the fountain shimmered, and I was pulled under. ⸻ I landed in darkness. Kane's eyes snapped open, gasping in a desperate breath. And my world exploded in silver fire. The last thing I felt was my power imploding, taking me with it as darkness claimed me. LORENZO’S POV Back in my room ...the weight of everything we had discovered settled on my chest like a stubborn cat. Heavy. Warm. Unmoving. Echo’s entire life had been ripped open in front of her... and she couldn’t even do anything about it. She couldn’t run to save her mum. Couldn’t fight for herself. Couldn’t even touch anything. And somehow… in the middle of all that mess… I had enough material to almost finish my novel. Yeah. I am horrible but also… kind of brilliant.

I opened my eyes to the dark. “Then let him come.” Far from Hollow Base, beneath the ruins of the first lab, Subject One stood in silence. Behind him, rows of dark figures rose from long-sealed chambers. They are not clones and not soldiers either. They are Echoes, early test subjects that were rejected and forgotten. Now waking.
