The final moment of the race was a contest between Lauren, Wanda, and another top rider. Lauren pushed herself to the front, her brows furrowed in fierce concentration. “She’s going to lose,” I whispered, smiling. Kendra looked puzzled. I knew every expression Lauren could make in every circumstance. She couldn’t hold on. No sooner had I spoken than Lauren faltered. Wanda crossed the line first, followed closely by the other rider. I went to look at it through our window before I saw that many people were being thrown out of the hostel. “What’s going on?” I asked Eddy before his blue eyes were looking at me. There was a depth to it but I don’t know what it was. “The finalists have been drawn. That’s why the others were being kicked out of the hostel,” Eddy said before I was looking at the angry mob. Well, it sure looked like one. “How do you know all this?” “I looked at it when I went to get some coffee. Want some?” Eddy offered as he was pointing at the jug that was on the counter. I shook my head before I was smirking.

Something wasn’t right. With a sigh, Eddy stood up, pulled on a robe, and opened a drawer. He scribbled a cheque and handed it to the woman. “I think you’ll like this more than me, sweetheart,” he said with a smirk. The woman snatched it and left in silence. Chris glanced at Eddy. He nodded. Chris left too. Eddy turned to Jack. “What the hell’s going on?” Jack sipped and chuckled darkly. “You’re more of a beast than I am.”
