The Hunter and the Vampire
“I was hungry, so I ate. It didn’t really help, and when I smelt a person – well, then I knew why. But it took the edge of, and I seem to be functioning the same as I did before. I just… I just need blood, too.”
I nodded along, making notes down the side of my list as she spoke. “And sunlight burns, right?”
“Yeah,” she laughed. “Sunlight definitely burns.”
I frowned at my list, and wrote: Cyrus goes out in the sun? in tiny, cramped letters. Something prodded at my memory as I tried to work out how that could be possible. His behaviour screamed suspicious, yet he couldn’t be a vampire if he went out during the day. He’d got a job as a lecturer, for Christ’s sake – how could a vampire do that?
