San Diego had me feeling differently. It was like I became Alex Gray the moment I drove into the city. My personality changed over the following two weeks as I followed Jordan Reed. “Could we start the morning briefing now?” Edward returned to his seat. He gave a nod. “Wait me in the meeting room”. Bernard rose from his seat. “Anything else, Mr. Edward?” Edward sighed and rested his hands on the table. “I think I haven’t anything to be asked. Oh, please prepare the points about the distribution problem. We should find some alternatives”. Bernard wrote on his tablet before asking permission to leave Edward’s room. Inside his room, Edward was taking a seat alone. ‘Elena Rouge is a freelance agent?’ He put his clenched hands on his front lips.

The same one who baked bread, who wore glasses and taught physics as if he was a clueless old man. That Edward had just taken out four trained operatives. No backup. No cameras. No trails. I couldn't believe it. My fingers curled tightly around his phone. “Sir?” Came the voice on the other end. I didn’t answer. I was trying to recall everything I knew about Edward. But there was so little. I had barely looked into the man beyond knowing he was close to Albert. I had assumed Edward was some small-town distraction. Someone tender and quiet and disposable. Someone… not important.

Reynold must be in there in the middle of the blaze. Edward got up and didn't care about Diego anymore. He let go of the man and ran straight into the building. Meanwhile, Zean's men had just arrived. Zean gave orders to his men with a single gesture that meant "Finish them all!" Edward entered the building and charged into the flames. His fatherly intuition told him that Reynold must be in there. "Dear God, please. Give me a clue as to where Reynold is!" Edward searched for Reynold's whereabouts while praying. He was really close to breaking down as the fire grew bigger.

She was not a goddess. "Who is the person?" Pete said that he was thinking of taking back the pictures for himself so that he could keep them in his house. "There," the man pointed at the tall black suit men with wide shoulders. People's attention was on him. When Pete and Rebecca waited for him to turn around, they were not expecting to get more jolt, but they did when they saw it was Edward standing in front of them. "He bought them!" The man said and left Pete's side. Meanwhile, Rebecca felt a chill run down her spine, and a ball of nervousness rolled down her throat.

"Go ahead and observe what happens inside my castle! Your life will be the price. I'll see how far you can get me away from that blind woman." Edward was still focused on the two yellow dots that seemed to be moving backwards. A slight smirk appeared on his thin lips, then his hand grabbed his bow and arrow and began to aim. There was a hum of wind produced by the arrow's flight that was able to turn the silent night into noise.

Then I turned and started back down the path. I had been heading toward the gate. But as I passed the newer section of the cemetery — the darker stones, the ones that hadn't yet weathered to the same grey as the older ones — I slowed. Edward's grave was a short distance to my left. I could see it from the path. Large and broad, a simple grey stone with his name and nothing else, because Edward had specified no inscription. He had said he had spent enough of his life putting words to things he should have simply done.

Mom said in a low voice laced with threat. I grabbed a champagne flute from a passing waitress and took a slow sip, watching Mom’s stiff expression over the rim of my glass. “I want to introduce you to Edward,” she added. My eyes widened. “Edward?” Mom stared me down with that frozen expression of hers. It took everything in me not to tell her to lay off the Botox. Her face was slowly losing the ability to feel. “Edward is Emanuel’s only son. He’s on holiday here in London, but heading back to the Netherlands next week to finish his master’s degree in business.”

Mrs. Carraway finally noticed Edward’s existence. She looked at him in astonishment, having a slight inkling that he had arrived with her daughter yesterday, and she managed to vaguely guess his identity. As expected, she heard her daughter’s introduction, “Mom, this is Edward Levin.” Edward promptly stepped forward, switched his countenance, and politely greeted, “Hello, Mrs. Carraway. I’m Edward Levin, Vee’s boyfriend.”
