That’s the only reason I’m letting it slide this time.” His tone was icy, each word meticulously measured. “However,” he leaned in slightly, just enough to let his presence loom larger, “if I catch you pulling something reckless again, I’ll make sure the higher-ups you so desperately cling to handle it. And believe me, it won’t be to your benefit.”
