she said, turning the computer to show us the page. “No need, I know what happened,” Jasper says walking to a bookcase. He walked back with a leather book flipping until she reached a page. I placed the book down and pushed it in front of me and Melina. The chapter was about the lost princess of Eardwulf. “The lost princess? Jasper, you know that’s just an old story that was told right?” Melina said looking at Jasper as if he had lost his mind.

’ By the time Alec reached the part where Jack slid down the beanstalk and chopped it down, the children's eyelids drooping. Eloise was the first to surrender, her tiny body curled beside her teddy bear. Nathaniel followed soon after, still clutching Fizzy like a pillow. Damian fought the longest—his brows furrowed in stubborn resistance—but even he gave in mid-yawn, his eyes fluttering close. Alec closed the book. “Out like lights,” he murmured. I smiled and rose to my feet, then pulled the blanket over our babies. Meanwhile, Alec walked to the dresser and lowered the book.

Shelves sagged with forgotten stories and whispered secrets. A small bell tinkled as I entered, and an elderly man looked up from behind the counter. “Looking for anything special?” he asked with a gentle smile. “Something to help me find myself,” I joked, but there was truth beneath the words. He nodded knowingly. “Sometimes, the right story finds us when we need it most.” I browsed through the shelves, fingers trailing over worn spines until a slim volume caught my eye — *The Folklore of Lost Hearts*. I pulled it down and flipped through the pages filled with tales of love, loss, and the strange magic that binds us all.

Her chubby little body shifted back and forth until the pillow was right, Bunny rested on her stomach, and the blanket covered only one leg because she treated fabric like a political opponent. I opened the book. “Princess Elara and the Fox Who Stole the Moon,” I read.

CHAPTER 1: DRAGONS It is a little past 8pm and the moon is full and well lit. It is bedtime for seven years old Elizabeth and she is all ready for bed. Teeth flossed, hair brushed and nighties worn. Her sister Historia a seventeen years old red head decides to spice up story time tonight. Instead of reading from the regular bedtime stories, she chooses to tell a story from an old fantasy novel. Historia tokes in her sister in place, as she stands up to dramatize the story with her red eyes wild open. Elizabeth packs her beautiful blond hair in a ponytail as she widens her red ruby eyes as well in suspense.

I said. "Do not tell him too early," she said seriously. "Children should discover their own strengths. I read that in a book." “Which book?" Silas said. She gave him the title and author without hesitation. He produced his phone and looked it up with the air of someone who intended to read it. "Eleanor," I said. She looked at me. “Would you like to hold him?" She sat in the chair and I placed Edmund in her arms with the instruction about head support that I had given Luke years ago. She followed it exactly.

Gabby's eyes darted around. "What?" "Would.You.Like.Another.Book.Eleanor?" Eleanor watched Gabby look around and looked around herself. Were they being watched? "Wh... I... Uhm... Sure." Gabby left and came back a while later with a big book titled, 'THE LEGENDS OF BIGFOOT"

Something in my chest flutters, fragile as a baby bird. Goddess above, that’s terrifying. Estrella mumbles something. I lean closer. “What?” “Keep… going,” she manages. “Anything.” “Okay.” I nod. “I can do that.” I launch into a story from when Baz and I were young, one that doesn’t make us look good. After that, I tell a couple stories about Finn and Ingrid. When she still wants more, I just start describing the secret passages in the castle, where they lead, and who I think built them.

Right before my dad left and my mum lost her mind. "What was the book?" Rhodes asks gently after a few moments of silence, I've always found a way to leave him speechless with my sad past. "Eloise of Green Gables, it's my favourite book" I reply with a smile, it really is, even if it is mainly for children. I try and re-read it every year or so, it's the first book I ever really got lost in. "The cupcake?"

“Read! Read now, Daddy!” Before I could answer, Elena walked in, her presence filling the room like a quiet shadow. She carried one of Arya’s favorite books , a worn fairy tale collection with creased pages and a cover nearly falling apart from overuse. Elena didn’t look at me as she handed Arya the book. “Which story tonight?” “The dragon one!” Arya declared proudly. “The one where the princess saves the knight.” I chuckled. “Of course. The dragon one.”
