CHAPTER 66: Elizabeth’s Discovery Elizabeth bends over a stack of worn folders, her fingers tracing the edges of ancient papers. Rifling through files, attempting to understand the chaotic jumble of her family's past, she has been looking for hours, seeking the absent parts that have escaped her for so long. But nothing could have prepared her for the find she was about to make.

"And I answer to no one. If we're not an item well, then that's my choice, isn't it?" The audacity in her voice sent a wave of anger through Mr. Hill so he grabbed her jaw, forcing her to look at him. "You will kneel," he snarled. Lizzie stared into his eyes, searching for a reason, a spark of the man she once met at Papaya’s. But all she saw was a possessive predator, blinded by jealousy and rage. And with that, she carefully sank on her knees.

’’ Beth said with a frown. The food she brought was already cold and she knew he wouldn’t touch it until he drove his point home. For a minute, she wondered what her life would be like if she wasn’t his prisoner. She wondered whether he would treat her the same way or differently. Elizabeth had seen first hand the way he treated other people out there with love and kindness but yet her own case was different and this was because he has refused to see her as anything else except what she is. The hunter’s daughter.

“What about him?” Elizabeth crossed her arms. “He has declared a bounty on you. A high one. Word is spreading through every region. Rogue. Vampire. Hunter. Witch. Anyone who brings you to him dead or alive will be rewarded.” I blinked. My pulse thudded once… then again, harder. “What?” I whispered. “Liam wouldn’t—” “He did,” Elizabeth cut in sharply. “And people are already forming hunting groups. They want your head, Selena.” I staggered back a step. “Why?” I whispered. “Why would he go this far? Why does he even need me this bad? I'm sure that old witch put him up to it "

The same face, but animated by an entirely different presence. Elizabeth Wakefield pressed a hand against the cool glass. "Time to go to work," she said to her reflection, her voice steady and cool. She picked up Claire's bag, then paused. A silver pendant around her neck glimmered faintly. She touched it, and for a moment, Claire's fear echoed in her chest—a ghost of the woman whose life she now wore. Elizabeth pushed the feeling down. "Not today," she whispered. Today, she had a company to infiltrate, a fiancé to destroy, and a mystery to solve: why Jason Collen had just texted this phone asking why his assistant was late for their 7 AM meeting.

Killing them was usually just as hard, though. “So who was the hunter?” I asked, shuffling back in my seat. “Esther – that was my girlfriend – was searching for a witch to help her undo the curse. Who better to track down a witch than a woman trained to do so from birth?” He shrugged. “That was when I met Steph. Stephanie,” he corrected, and then he frowned to himself, as though admonishing himself for rudely using her nickname. “She was very much like you. Though she didn’t have the spark of passion that you do, Callie. She was more... clinical. By the book.”

He smirked silently at his cleverness. On the other side of Dragon City. A private detective handed Elizabeth photos that he had taken secretly earlier on. Elizabeth opened the envelope and took a quick look. "Perfect." Elizabeth laughed hysterically and couldn't wait to savagely tear apart Hazel. She had always been good at creating trouble between people. As long as she had the goods on the little bitch, she could easily throw her out on her ear. With these photos that she had just collected, there was no way for Hazel to defend herself. She demanded, "Print them out and get them

His companions were not far behind him and in the blink of an eye they were gone, leaving their drinks behind. Cathy threw her hands in the air. “Great! Now they have the rest of my money and I have half my orders.” “Teddy get Frank to get three trucks of our best wine and beers over here now.” Teddy went off to carry out his order while Theodore wiped his hands and with a smirk winked at Taylor who despite her boss’s obvious dislike of the man, blushed. Cathy rolled her eyes. The man was a charmer but she knew the truth about him. He was a dangerous Hunter who abducted and slit throats for a living. The kind of person she didn’t want around her.

Elizabeth turned to look at me over her left shoulder, annoyance obviously shining in her eyes. "Sure." She said. "Make sure you sign those papers, okay?" Elizabeth looked furious that she had to leave her own space for Elijah and I. But she did leave without uttering another word. Once she left, Elijah started walking towards me. The look he gave me was enough for me to know that he had known what I was doing. He knew I had taken the little bottle of poison from Cane's jacket, and he knew I was trying to kill my own sister.

My stomach tightened, but I didn’t answer. “You’re falling for him,” she said, stepping closer. Her voice was low and incredulous, like she couldn’t decide whether to laugh or scream. “A half-human, half-beast boy? God, Silas, you’re even more stupid than I thought.” I turned away, reaching for the door, but her next words stopped me cold. “Does he know who you really are?” I froze, my hand hovering over the knob. “Does he know who your father was? What your family did?” she continued, her tone quieter but no less dangerous. “Does he know you’re the son of a hunter? The son of a man who slaughtered his kind without blinking an eye?”
