💞 Gianna’s P.o.v💞 “Hey,it seems some new people have moved in next door” Jamal said as he looked through the window. I joined him to look,i saw two people, I think they are husband and wife. They were with their luggages,while the maids were helping them with somethings. “I pray they have daughters” Jamal said and i smacked his head. “Ouch” “Jammy,you are such man-whore” i said and he chuckled.

Vaughn smiled proudly, his nervousness slowly fading away. Eloise glanced at the two of them and sighed. “I have something to tell you, Ollie,” she started off.

My son wails in his sling as cold bits through my coat. I lock the door and draw the blinds, whispering reassurances to the screaming baby before going through the side door leading to the stairwell. It’s dark, empty, and lifeless. The dark steps blend with the peeling gray paint as I hurry up to my apartment holding back a torrent of tears. I knock on my elderly neighbor’s door and yank it open, glancing inside. Ms. Eloise is curled up in a blanket on her bed like usual, her woodstove barely puffing enough heat into the room to keep frost from coating the windows.

Below, in the modest dirt yard bordered by weathered fences, her sister Elena moved gracefully with a broom, clearing fallen leaves and dust. After a while, Eloise chose The Bone Woman, a horror, mystery, and thriller movie. This gonna be thrilling, intriguing, or perhaps dull. Arrg! I rather stay at home. Finally, after we bought a ticket, we went next to the snack bar. "Gillian.. Popcorn?!" Eloise spoke, waiting for my confirmation. I raised my head as a yes. And so she went back, talking to the counter person. I was behind them, confused. They only buy one serve of popcorn. Aren't they gonna buy for themselves too? "Here.." Eloise handed me the whole pack of popcorn with a bottle of soda. And then they began to walk again. I frowned as I saw them going to the pizza stall.

Eloise helped as they quietly pushed the old door open. Eloise watched in amazement as Gerwulf waved his hand, all the candles they had managed to sneak over the years instantly lit. Chalk drawings and books littered the room, showing the progress of their friendship. This was their safe space to speak freely and for Gerwulf to practice his magic.

We sat in the living room, Zara talking nonstop about the States—her job, her apartment, how lonely it got sometimes. “I missed home,” she admitted softly. “And I missed you.” I reached for her hand. “I missed you too.” She looked at Elijah again. “So… how did you two meet?” He glanced at me. “Next-door neighbors.” Her eyes widened. “Are you serious?” I nodded. “Life is strange.” She smiled. “I like this version of your life.” Later, Zara pulled me aside while Elijah stepped out to take a call. “You’re happy,” she said quietly.
