I wondered. I walked slowly towards the window with my arms wrapped around me. I grabbed the window handles to pull them back to close it but I stopped midway when I noticed the lights next door. Who could that be? The house beside us was empty for over a year. I squinted and could actually see the inside of the room through the window adjoining mine. Like seriously, I could strangle the guy who constructed these houses like that. So damn close! Anyway, we finally got some new neighbours. What an odd time to move in though, I couldn't help but think. I just hope they would be nice. My parents could have some pals.

V. The whole time, Trent kept reminding himself, the right and decent thing to do was not to read another word. However, after fifteen minutes of trying to watch T.V., he got up and fished the papers out of the trash can. His neighbor could be dangerous, he reasoned with himself. It would be in his best interest to ensure she wasn’t deranged or something - or at least that is what he told himself as he sat down on the couch.

I simply nodded so he wouldn't notice that I was getting lost in my own thoughts again.

They didn't sleep around or act crazy. When the neighbors found out what happened to me, they rallied together and organized a fundraiser for me. I didn't have to work three jobs anymore. I slowly learned that real safety didn't come from guns or locked doors. It came from people looking out for each other. In the new neighborhood, Draven made a lot of good friends. He grew brighter and more cheerful every day. The smile came back to his face. As he got better, so did I. What Rina did to us became a wake-up call, a reminder to always hold onto your values and not throw yourself into relationships with just anyone.

I hadn't planned on meeting anyone today, least of all, a stranger at my door. "Hello neighbor, " she said, waving, her voice light and friendly. "I’m Lena, your neighbor. I stay just down the hall. I saw you move in just last week and thought I'd stop by to say hello and maybe introduce myself. I hope I’m not interrupting anything."

She was barely stepping out of the elevator when— “Lena!” Suzy. Her neighbor. Before Lena could even react, Suzy bumped into her slightly. “Woah… I’m sorry!” Suzy said quickly, then immediately broke into a giggle like nothing had happened. Lena narrowed her eyes slightly. “What’s making you feel this way?” Suzy leaned closer like she was about to share state secrets. “We have a new neighbor.” Lena blinked. “So?” Suzy’s eyes widened. “And Lena…” She paused dramatically.

Tyrell remarked and I couldn't help the heat that rose to my cheeks, it was normal for us to get a house, we were dating after all. From the corner of my eye, Cleo was rolling her eyes, and imitating a puking person until finally our neighbor arrived. "Hello, I'm Annette, but folks call me Ani, you just be our new neighbors, it's nice to meet you." She drew her hands out and shook us one by one. She was all smiles and bubbly, she looked to be in her late twenties. It seemed as though Tyrell was in no mood to be greeting neighbors as he was more focused on getting our things from the car.

As she proceeds to open the door, sounds of running steps approaches and passes in a jiffy. “Did you hear that?” “Yes” Bensjasmin replies and still proceeds to open the door but I held her hand and gave her the "don't go look". She shrugs and matches to her seat. As if on cue, my phone rings and I quickly walk to pick it up. It's my neighbor. “The neighbourhood is not safe. I heard there's an intrusion by some strangers. Be safe” My neighbor, a mother of three children whispers and the call ends immediately.

She was used to quiet nights, stars, warm porches—not city rooftops, neon lights, and mysterious neighbors. Inside, the elevator hummed as it climbed to the tenth floor. Ruby watched the numbers light up one by one. Eight. Nine. She swallowed hard. Ten. When the doors opened, music hit them. Loud, pulsing, rhythmic. Not rude, not angry—just… wild. The hallway lights flickered red and gold compared to the calmer lights downstairs. Ruby stepped out carefully, clutching her backpack. At the far end of the hall, their new neighbor’s door was cracked open—just enough to spill voice, laughter, and music into the hallway like an invitation and a warning at the same time.

My dog really is one of a kind. I was about to retreat inside when a chorus of moans and breathless whispers drifted over from my only neighbors-a young couple, Junior and Andeng, who lived alone in the cottage next door. "Junior, please! Not now-it's too early. Sasha might hear us!" I froze in place, a groan building in my throat. Here we go again. "Come on, Andeng-you left me hanging last night-" Oh boy. Junior, you're wearing that woman out!
