ELLIOT SHARON The morning was calm in the emergency room. There were no surgeries, just a few people with minor scrapes and burns. It was a little after eight in the morning when the sirens blared; a trauma was arriving. It was going to be one of those days. I hurried, putting on my gown along with some of my interns, waiting for the paramedics to descend and present the case to us. "What do we have?" I asked as the paramedic stepped out of the ambulance, preparing to lower the gurney.

The drive to the hospital was a blur of streetlights and silence. Emma sat in the back seat of Jackson's car, her hands still stained with Beth's blood, staring blankly at the passing buildings. Kristie was beside her, holding her arm, and Luan sat in the front, occasionally glancing back with worried eyes. Nobody spoke. The weight of what had happened pressed down on them like a heavy fog. When they finally pulled into the hospital's emergency entrance, the scene outside was chaotic. Numbers of patients are complaining about their injuries. Some of them are unconscious, and a few are not.

A male nurse was trying to get one guy to lie down, a doctor was trying to calm down a hysterical mother, a couple were arguing passionately about whose fault the car crash was. Sam saw Nick’s shocked and stunned expression. “It's Friday night, Nick. She was attached to an IV and something clear was dripping into her arm. He walked closer, saw the stitches along her hairline. A
