Alpha Ethan
***
The next few days go by in a similar way.
I wake up feeling sore and achy—my muscles stiff from the trip here. Ethan comes to see me in the morning. Fiona serves me porridge, berries, and fresh tea for breakfast. In the evening, a lady-in-waiting arrives with potted pies, cuts of meat, and bread.
When I’m by myself, I explore my small bedroom while the rain taps against the window.
I read more of that dreadful book of experiments, flipping through pages titled The effects of wolfsbane on a wolf’s ability to heal, The order in which a wolf’s bones break when they shift, and Provoking the inner wolf: A half-wolf’s response to emotional trauma.
