Chapter One: The Bond The moon hung blood-red over the Spring Equinox celebration, a crimson eye watching the gathered wolves below. Emma Adams smoothed her silver dress for the hundredth time, trying to calm her racing heart. At twenty-three, she'd attended enough pack ceremonies to know the routine, but tonight felt different. The air crackled with possibility, heavy with magic that made her wolf pace restlessly beneath her skin, claws scraping against her consciousness with growing urgency.

Emma glanced at her, assessing. Ori was naturally beautiful, with watery eyes and a delicate and charming face resembling a lotus flower. She wore a light pink embroidered gown accentuating her slender shoulders, thin waist, and graceful figure. If Emma were an ignorant thirteen-year-old, she might not notice anything unusual. However, with her mature mind beyond thirty, why didn't she recognize the subtle changes in the young girl before her? There was no expression on Emma's face as she said, "This robe is truly exquisite."

So why did it sting? Then, Emmaline appeared dressed in a stunning red dress while holding a large present for Arielle. But as she caught sight of the bride, her expression shifted to one of shock. She took a step back, as if she had seen a ghost. “Emmaline! What’s wrong?” Crystal asked, her face full of concern. “Auntie, I feel suddenly so nauseous,” Emmaline said quickly, her face pale and she bolted away from the crowd. She rushed toward the washroom, but on the way, she collided with Zachary.

Just a smart business attire that Amelia always donned. "Can’t I visit?" Emmeline asked. "Last I checked, your mother is my godmother. I am basically a Montgomery." If Matteo were here, he might’ve even reminded Emmeline that Catherine Laine was in fact not the first Montgomery mistress, but just a mistress, period. But that was Aiden’s own mother, and he wasn’t going to say such a thing just to get a jab at Emmeline, tempting as it was.

Vera said in mock indignation. “Oh, Sebastian let me introduce you to Jade’s best friend, this is Emma,” Elliott said, gesturing his hand toward Emma who was standing about a foot behind us now, looking intently at Sebastian. “Pleased to meet you,” he said with an air of diplomacy, offering his hand to Emma, who shook it with a smile on her face. “Were you from that disgrace of a pack as well?” “Oh, um, yes. Jade and I were both kitchen omegas there.” Emma seemed a bit rattled by the way Sebastian made such firm eye contact with her, as if searching her for something that he didn’t find.

"Good morning Aunt!" Karis greets immediately she walks into the sitting room. "Morning, sweetheart! When did you get back? " Mrs Wachukwu asks, quite surprised to see her Karis, she had no idea that she was back. "Sorry, I forgot to tell you! She came back last night!" Aunty Stella says to her sister with a broad smile. "Morning Juliet!" Karis greets immediately she sights Juliet, who returns the greeting with a smile. Meanwhile, Alexandra walks in. She greets her Mum and Aunt, you could tell she was in a shitty mood. She is still dressed in her nighties which looks so transparent.

“Emma was in one of the files. Except her name isn’t Emma, it’s Camille Munroe.” Sure enough, a photo of Emma was attached to the file but instead it showed her name as Camille Munroe and that she had worked at the LA Lark for a few months. The photo wasn’t recent though. In it their female had long hair that was a light brown and fell in waves to frame her perfect face and slender neck. Jag couldn’t help but notice the sadness in her eyes as well. It was the same sadness that he recalled seeing the first time they spoke. It was Emma but not the Emma they knew. She was smart, calm and never seemed to even care about the outside world that much, she was the only person inside her bubble and as far as I can see, she never allowed anyone to get inside it. Adelaide let her eyes move over the people that filled the pristine white space as their eyes all turned to look to her. Familiar faces stood out from the crowd next to Theo and she quickly made her way over. The tall female was dressed in traditional wear that stood out from the crowd that had gathered and her hair was auburn and long, reaching to her lower back. Her eyes were blue and wild, full of the wolf that lounged beneath her skin. The wilderness clung to her skin and was a drug to her senses, like a song pulling her back to the true nature of their kind.
