I sat on my bed, writing down how I felt about Emmet in my big book that I hoped to publish someday when I have the courage. For now, it was like a diary–totally confidential. "Nicky!" Damon's voice echoed from downstairs. "Nicky!" I sighed and swung my legs from the bed to the floor. My book was resting under my blue duvet and I made a mental note to put it back when I return, but first–I needed to know why my best friend was yelling my name like a goat.

I nodded encouragement, curious myself about what Alex had chosen. She took the bag cautiously, as if it might contain something dangerous. Peering inside, her eyes widened. "Wow." "What is it, Em?" I asked, moving closer. She pulled out three books – beautifully illustrated hardcovers about space exploration, female scientists, and a novel featuring a young girl inventor. They were exactly the kind of books she loved, just like her had gotten her yesterday. "These are... really cool," she admitted reluctantly, examining the covers. "I wanted to read this one, but the library doesn't have it yet."

The lights flickered on only for a moment before going out—just my luck. My eyes skimmed around the room. I did not know what I was looking for, but whatever it was had to be in here. In my bones, I knew that Luna Emma was the key to what was going on in Red Spruce. I thumbed over Luna Emma's bookcase, letting my fingers graze over the spines of the books. My eyes raked over the titles, searching for anything that might seem out of place or something about the pack history. Most of the books seemed like they were ancient. My thumb stroked a small black leather book with emerald filigrees, and the room became foggy.

Emma immersed herself in her research, poring over volumes of history, folklore, and newspaper clippings. ‘What kind of animals are these? Where did they come from? Why are they in silverwood?’ She thought to herself silently. Hours turned into moments as Emma lost herself in the labyrinth of information, her curiosity leading her from one thread to another. She discovered faded photographs capturing the essence of Silverwood's past, each image whispering stories of triumph and tragedy. It was in a forgotten corner of the library that Emma stumbled upon a worn and dusty tome, its spine cracked with age. Emmett gave a small laugh—and then went quiet. It wasn't a comfortable quiet. It was the kind that filled a room, the kind that told Anna he hadn't come here just to ask about the baby. He sat there, jaw working slightly, eyes somewhere far away, and Anna recognized the look. She'd seen it on people who were deciding whether or not to say something they couldn't take back. "Emmett." she said carefully. He looked up. "Ever heard of a Chimera before?" Something shifted behind Emmett's eyes—a flicker, there and gone. "Of course, Anna. The mythical beast that has two heads, a goat's body and a serpent tail, and breaths flames."

Her feet were crossed behind her, moving from side to side as the rest of her body moved to whatever tune was playing in her mind. I found myself constantly distracted by her movements. The emails were going unanswered while she was reading one of those sex books she’d found in one of the rooms. One of my wolves enjoyed some kinky books, which I didn’t have a problem with Emma reading. Anything that got my woman hot and horny was only a benefit to me. Ethan's POV:::

There where now books with titles such as The Witch Within You, Herbs and Pentagrams, Spells and the Sabbaths, True Magic in the World. Maddie had never noticed that there were so many books on that subject. She was shocked when Omem suddenly stood in front of her. ‘Are you coming, child? Lunch is ready.’ Maddie nodded and left the library.

Gladdy was awake now, and Emma was patting her bottom as she browsed through the books she needed. He noticed her head turn to the fictional books, then back to her textbooks. It was subtle at first, but as they went nearer the end of the aisle, he was sure she wanted a particular set of books from the opposite shelf. He made a mental note to browse through it later, or maybe just buy all of it since he didn’t know which ones she wanted exactly. What am I thinking?

I asked, ruffling his hair. He scrunched his nose at the gesture but didn’t pull away. “What are you doing so close to the outskirts of pack land?” I continued, tilting my head in mock concern. “Didn’t your mother ever tell you about the rogues? They could snatch you up and take you far, far away.” Emmett puffed out his chest, his expression shifting into one of defiance. “I’m not scared of rogues. I’m too old for that! And if I ever see one, I’ll shift into my wolf and tear their throats out!”

She never could have stomached doing this with him if she didn't want a baby. "Emma." In ten minutes, he was on his way to his meeting. Emma showered and dressed, hoping that maybe this time she would get pregnant. At least she had her friends to see tonight. A few women from the pack who had befriended her despite the rumors that swirled around her. She grabbed her book, then headed downtown to the bookstore. Fang City was a small town that was shrouded from human sight by magic. Fang City Books hosted several types of book clubs.
