Jake read chapters at night. “She’s you,” he said once. “But also more.”
“She’s who I might have become,” Emma said, “if I hadn’t lost so much. Or maybe if I’d lost more.”
“You’ve made beauty from both.”
On the first anniversary of The Language of Quiet, Emma returned to the bookstore where it launched. There was no formal event just a few readers who had found comfort in her words.
One of them, a young man with soft eyes, brought his mother’s copy of the book. “She passed away last month,” he said, voice trembling. “She said your story helped her understand her own. I wanted you to know that.”
