I paused in the doorway, my mind already cataloging the streets, the arrondissements, the major landmarks, my strategic mind seeing not a city, but a battlefield.
"Paris," I said, my voice neutral. I was not asking a question. I was stating a fact, a declaration of my awareness.
He looked up, a faint smile touching his lips, a smile that did not quite reach his eyes. "Paris," he agreed, his voice a low, familiar rumble. "We leave at the end of the week."
