"She performs Wednesday." "Wednesday," I said. Nikki picked up her glass, took a drink, and set it down. "I will do it," she said. I did not say anything in response. There was nothing to say. Nikki had agreed and Wednesday was four days away and the thing we had been working toward for months was now a date on a calendar with a plan attached to it. All four of us in the room knew what Wednesday meant. None of us needed to name it.

Bring your identification and your seriousness.” Winnie leaned on the counter, exhaling like she had just watched a masterstroke unfold. “Wednesday,” she said. “That’s close.”

Either way it was dangerous and had to be stopped.
