The room smelled of old leather, ink, and cold stone—authority steeped into the walls over generations. This was where King Earic made decisions that reshaped Ancnix, where loyalty was demanded and mercy rationed. Gregory stood near the tall windows overlooking the inner court, hands clasped behind his back, shoulders tight with anticipation as though the world itself were holding its breath alongside him.
