The nurse advised Erica. Hearing an answer that was beyond her expectations, Erica had to personally scan her surroundings to find out the truth. She finally realized that this was neither heaven nor hell. She wasn't dead; she was in the hospital. The white color contrasted with the yellow of the sun, making the room feel less cold. There was a slight warmth, and the scent of antiseptic lingered in the air. Erica withdrew her gaze after learning that she was still on Earth. So God had given her another chance. Erica wondered if she was happy. Erica seemed to have forgotten something. And it was true; she had overlooked that this was what she had been imploring for while in a coma.

It was a very big and modern church. Eric, on the other hand, was nervous as hell. He wanted today to be perfect. Not for him but for Annie. Eric, his Dad, Best man and the groom’s men got to the church on time. By then most of the guests had arrived and had settled down. Dylan and Eric made their way to the aisle and soon enough it was announced that the bride was around. It was only then Eric let out a sigh of relief. The whole congregation stood to their feet upon the announcement. First to step in was the little bride and the ring bearer.

“This looks like a formal gathering.” “It is,” Erica said happily. “I don’t attend formal gatherings.” “This one you do.” Ava leaned toward me. “This is definitely a setup.” I already knew that. And then I saw Eric. He was standing near the center talking with elders and visiting leaders. He looked calm and serious. Very different from the version of him I saw during chaos or family arguments. This version felt controlled and focused. And the moment he looked up and saw me, he stopped talking immediately. His attention locked on me completely.

Eric said as he took my hand in his. "I promised him I was over you before he proposed, and then I abandoned him at the fricken alter," I snarled as Eric sped away. I exclaim as a bird flies through the window. Eric pulled over as we both got out of the car. It was a fairly large bird. I knelt next to the red and golden bird, hoping to heal it but knowing I wouldn't be able to. I looked down at the bird, stroking its feathers and calming it as it took its final breath. I gasped as it exploded in flames and a man appeared in front of me.

Sick! Nick looked at me when the boss made the announcement, he had that mischievous smile, as if he was trying to say, "You're stuck with me, Clumsy Gracie”. And I'm really thinking, if I fall down this stairs one more time again, it might not be gravity but Nick. And Nick? We were childhood sweethearts once until life happened and we had to part ways. He was my best friend. Until he came to work at Evara Press, our company. I remember running down to see him.

"All those years we almost lost each other. Femi. Sophia. The distance. And now we're here. Still almost." He took her hand. His fingers were cold. "But not yet." "No. Not yet." "Then let's stop almost losing each other. Let's start almost staying." She looked at him. "That's the same thing." "No. It's different. Almost losing means we're waiting for something to go wrong. Almost staying means we're trying to make it right." The next day, Grace called. Maya answered on the second ring. "Hi, baby." "How are you guys?"

Quiet in that life-changing kind of way. Like something you build—not something you fall into. The rest of the world spun around them—families laughing, cameras clicking, Christmas music trickling from a nearby speaker. But in that breath, in that kiss, it was just them. No past. No almost. Just now. Just yes.

- Church was well church. Eric kept dozing off if he wasn't then he was seducing me, touching my thighs. Pastor Johnston was preaching and I couldn't help but give out a yawn. It wasn't boring, I was just tired. Robbie kept giving us both an eye when Eric went to the church bathrooms and gestured for me to follow. I did, like I would follow him to the back of beyond. When we got there he just pulled me in his arms and gently kissed me with no intention of letting me go. "Uhm.." Someone cleared their throat and my cheeks flushed while I was still in Eric's arms. He faked a gasp and place his left hand on his chest giving an offended look. “ I can't believe you think such nonsense about me, for your information,” He emphasized slowly on the word ‘information’ then continue speaking, “ I'm a holy child of God, a strong believer and there is a special place for me in heaven. Very special.” his lips tugged into a smile as he said that. “ Yeah, yeah. Keep telling yourself that. Just so you know, your sins are going to hinder you and if you want God to show his mercy go and meet Ashton.” I puffed air out of my nose, feeling slightly annoyed at Eric.
