The grand gates of the Ashford Mansion opened slowly. They made a low, grinding sound, like a tired animal. A black car drove in, moving very carefully. Inside, Evelyn Ashford was sitting in the back seat. She wasn't wearing her diamonds today. She was wrapped in a thick, gray shawl. Her face was thin, and her hands were shaking. She looked at the giant stone house and didn't feel like a Queen. She felt like a guest in a hotel.
