The Luna He Lost
Elara crouched beside one of the bodies, pulling the mask off.
The face beneath it was young. Too young. Barely older than me. His eyes were still wide in death, surprised, like he hadn’t expected to lose.
“He was marked,” she said quietly.
I leaned closer. There, just behind his ear, was a small black symbol. An eye surrounded by flames.
“Initiate level,” Elara added. “They weren’t even full priests.”
“So this was a test,” Killian said grimly.
“Or a distraction,” I muttered.
