Esther then led Violet up the stairs and they entered the room. “Where's your sister?” Violet asked into Esther's eyes when she saw no one was in the room. “I-I think she's still on her way here. You wait here. I-I'll wait for her outside,” Esther said nervously. Violet nodded trustingly at her without realizing that she was in the lion's den now. Esther walked out of the room, closed the door, and immediately walked out of the inn. She stopped her steps when she was behind the inn. One of Lester's men was waiting for her there. They both then left the inn back to the palace on horseback.

Esther sat before us, bound and glaring, her lips curled in a defiant sneer. Her once perfectly combed hair was now a tangled mess, her clothes tattered from the struggle that had finally brought her to her knees. Despite her disheveled appearance, there was something unnervingly composed about her. Her dark eyes seemed to glimmer with twisted amusement, as if this entire ordeal was just a game to her. But it wasn’t. Not to me. I stepped forward, crossing my arms as I regarded her. Jake stood to my right, his expression carved from stone, and Althea to my left, her hands trembling slightly, though she tried to hide it. Behind us, Fatima lingered, her sharp gaze never leaving Esther.

Chapter 101 ***ESTHER*** The first sight that I see as soon as I open my eyes are the twinkling stars right above my head and they are many. For some moments, I feel as if I am seeing the dream. I have never seen a lot of stars in a long time. I don't know if I had thought they were less important to ever observe or maybe they were less visible in the high pollution of the city area, I just hadn't seen them as beautiful as they are right now.

Esther’s POV The first thing I felt was pain. A dull, heavy ache radiated through my bones, as though I had been struck by the mountain itself. My eyes fluttered open, the dim glow of torchlight blurring into shapes I couldn’t place. The air smelled faintly of herbs and pine resin, a strange mixture that was both soothing and foreign. I was not in the dungeon. Not in the cold stone halls of Nicholas’s palace. Where was I? I tried to sit up, but a sharp protest tore through my ribs, and I sank back against the furs beneath me. That was when I heard a familiar voice.

Chapter one It felt good to finally be home after a long day. Esther balanced the grocery bag on her hip as she opened the front door. The house was too quiet.
