I could see the individual pores on his skin, the twitch of a muscle in his jaw.
"Can he hear us?" Thorne asked.
"No," the technician said, her voice shaking. "His perception of sound is already shifting into the megahertz range. To him, our voices are just a low, eternal groan that will take decades to finish a single syllable."
"And to him... how long until he leaves this room?" Thorne's voice was full of a terrible, clinical awe.
"In our time? He’ll vanish in about ten seconds," she replied. "But for Elias... he’ll be sitting in that chair, watching us, for the next sixty-five million years. To him, these ten seconds are the rest of eternity."
