“Don’t say anything until we’re sure. Not a word, darling. We need to be certain first.”
Sienna nodded almost imperceptibly, and then I watched as she forcibly smoothed her expression, transforming shock into friendly interest.
“Forgive me for asking, miss,” Sienna said, her voice remarkably steady, “but I don’t believe we’ve been introduced. Who are you?”
The girl looked up, and those green eyes—Sienna’s eyes—met my wife’s gaze. “I’m Celeste,” she replied quietly. “Jace’s sister.”
“Sister or stepsister?” My daughter Amelia’s voice cut in before I could stop her, sharp and rude. “Tell me clearly.”
