It was quiet, almost sacred, with sunlight streaming through the large windows and rows of books inviting me to lose myself in their worlds. I wandered through the aisles aimlessly until I stumbled across a section on business biographies. My fingers hovered over the spines until I spotted one that looked familiar: Against All Odds: The Rise of Evan Bennett. I pulled the book from the shelf, my heart racing. I hadn't known a biography about him existed. The cover featured a candid photo of Evan, his piercing eyes staring directly at the camera.

“You do. You always have.” I look down at my cup, watching steam curl upward, and wonder how someone can see you so clearly and still not see you at all. We wander into a bookstore next. Eva heads straight for the travel section, flipping through glossy pages of places she wants to go. I linger by the fiction shelves, pulling a book at random, letting the weight of it settle in my hands. “Found anything?” she asks, appearing beside me. “Maybe,” I say. “I like the way this one feels.”

I said, laughing softly. Evan raised a brow. “A turtle?” I nodded. “Apparently, he saw one in a cartoon and decided it was the perfect pet. He even named it already—Spike.” Evan shook his head, chuckling. “We might need to prepare for that.” The conversation flowed effortlessly. I had dreamed of moments like this. And now, I was living in it. As the plates were cleared away, Evan leaned back in his chair, watching me with that familiar intensity in his gaze.

I tried to speak, but my throat was so dry. Eve quickly leaned closer and gave me a sip of water. "Don’t speak, just eat.” Her face was pale, but she forced a gentle smile. I looked up at her and whispered, "Eve, you’re alive. I’m so glad." She nodded, tears in her eyes, and tore off another piece of meat, pressing it to my lips. I clenched my mouth shut, shaking my head frantically. Eve’s gaze was firm. "Emma, you need to stay alive. There’s hope as long as you’re alive."

He winked and I smiled. "But wait, Mia. Are we not going to talk about what happened today?" Eva asked as she tried to dodge Lucien's lips from kissing her face. I swear the man seemed like he would start making out with her right here. I couldn't blame him. Once a man got the taste of my girl, they simply couldn't stay away. "Talk about what?" I scratched my temple. "Sean?" "She's talking about how your wolf evolved like a Pokemon." Lucien answered and Eva nodded.

She had seen people speak into the small glowing rectangles before, but she had not thought of them as spaces where words could travel invisibly. The walk to the library was short but deliberate. The air in the east wing seemed to grow warmer as they approached, the familiar scent of leather and dust greeting her before the door was even in sight. Alton stood waiting, hands folded behind his back. “Good morning, Miss Eva,” he said with a small bow. “I believe your dragon is on the middle shelf today.” Eva stepped past him into the golden quiet of the library. Evelyn and Vivienne lingered at the door, watching her move toward the row of books as if she’d lived here for decades instead of mont

The pup would carefully hold up a copy of Chronicles of the Werewolf Pack and come up to Evan, asking, "Can you read with me, Daddy?" He tried to recall his reply back then, and he paused mid-sip, his eyes darkening. Evan had said, "I'm busy. I don't have time. Also, call me Mr. Stone." The memory stirred an inexplicable irritation in his chest. His grip on the glass was so tight it started to crack. Fueled by lingering alcohol, Evan pulled out his WolfNet and eventually messaged me. "Send me your address. I'll pick you and Toby up tomorrow."

I'm sorry Evie. This book is still in progress, currently just trying to finish this year with my studies and exams under all these different circumstances. I have been working on the next chapter, just trying to find the time to continue is a struggle. I do hope you all will continue to support me because this book will be finished soon. I practically spit in his face before walking over to the couch and picking up the book I threw. Then I sit down and ignore him. “What’s it about? I can’t remember.” “The novel’s coming along fine,” Eva replied proudly. “In fact, it’s almost done. You can’t remember what it’s about because I didn’t tell you, but nice try.” Tara heaved an impatient sigh and dove into her fare with exaggerated gusto. She hated secrets. Eva consistently refused to divulge the theme of her novels until they were in print. Her way of making it up to her niece and nephew was to present them with autographed first editions. Tara couldn’t understand where Eva came from with her superstitions. Just once she’d like to be able to know the plot before the world did.
