In a heartbeat, the humming stopped. The Source’s claw slipped. To the eyes of the anomaly in the sky, the Earth had vanished. The planet was now a silent, cold marble in the void, hidden behind a veil of violet static that mirrored the background radiation of the universe.
The Source wavered. Its golden sensors searched the dark, but there was nothing to harvest. With a slow, frustrated ripple of space-time, the eye in the sky began to close. The nebula retreated, pulling its shards back into the dark.
