12:01 a.m. Ava’s phone buzzed. Blocked number. No name. Just a single voice note. She sat up slowly, the blue glow of the screen casting eerie shadows across the bedroom walls. Her heart thrummed not from fear exactly, but from that gut-deep knowing. That sick pull in her stomach that whispered: Nothing good comes after midnight. Her finger hovered over the play button. Then, she tapped it. “They’re setting you up, Ava. The envelope was just the beginning.

I had been secretly dating Vito, heir to the Carlisi family, for five years, yet we never went public. He said he had too many enemies, so he didn’t want me to become a target for assassination. On our fifth anniversary, I overheard a conversation from the study: "Vito really has a way with women. He even got Bianca, the Rossi family principessa, to keep their relationship secret for five years." "Sia is coming back soon. When she sees you showing up with Bianca, she's probably kicking herself right now." Sia was his childhood sweetheart, the one who had left the country after he chose someone else. “Okay.” The rest of the night went on without incident. We watched the bands and hung out with our friends. Z and I hung out and talked a little bit throughout the night, but mostly did our own thing. Once the last band finished, we were all finishing up our drinks and planning on what to do after. Hannah had shown up about 30 minutes into the first bands set. I had noticed her hanging around or all over Z a few times tonight. I tried not to think much of it, but I could barely contain my eyerolls at her overly friendly behavior. “You are heading home Ash?”

The city blinked below, unaware of the war raging in its shadows. “Status?” she asked, her voice silk wrapped in steel. A young man in a lab coat stood behind her. “Vault EVE-09 is destroyed. All primary data presumed lost.” “Presumed?” He hesitated. “ARES’s signal was detected post-collapse. He’s alive. But so is Subject Athena.” Hekate smiled faintly. “Of course she is. She always survives.” “And the protocol?” “She doesn’t know the trigger,” Hekate said. “But ARES does.”

I was both individual and infinite, Luna and something larger than any name could capture. I could sense Kai welcoming me into whatever this state was called not afterlife exactly, but the continuation of consciousness in forms beyond flesh. Celeste too, and so many others whose names I had carved and whose memories I had carried. They were here, had always been here, waiting with patience that only the eternal could maintain.

They enjoyed their time along with dinner, bid their goodbyes, and came back to their respective houses. Next morning, Evan is waiting on the road for the same girl while he parks his car under the tree. While waiting for her, no matter how hard he tries to convince himself that she’s the mother of the child and a married woman, her presence has something captivating that makes him completely lose his mind in her beauty.

We wait and check that the message has been delivered. Trayton ~”Now we wait.” We wait. Five minutes pass. We wait. Another five minutes pass. We wait. And wait. Half hour pass. And we still waiting. The excitement has completely drained from her face, all that is left is disappointment. Then the phone rings. Ava ~”I am not answering, please will you?” I answer the phone. Trayton ~”Hi Mr Owens.” Richard Owens ~”Hi Trayton. Please call me Richard.”

Avery was frozen on her seat. Meanwhile, beside her, Ashton looked rather calm but full of anticipation. “I think she’s not going to read it,” Avery finally mumbled, breathless. Ashton only shifted a little, then adjusted his posture. His eyes were on Avery’s worried face. “Be patient,” he replied, “I believe she’s on it. She wouldn’t let a big chance like that slipped away, Avery. Avery who’d been holding her breath, finally let out a small sigh. Ashton was right. This was what Elena’s been waiting for. In no time, they would get a more valid proof.

He cut him off, making his point clear. “Yes sir.” the boy hung up. The girl smirked when she realized that Castiel Reed's soft heart had melted. “Where are they, Alicia?” he asked impassively.
