The observatory had become impossibly quiet. Because the light should not have existed. Nothing about the Lighthouse should have changed. Not after twelve cycles. Not after countless endings. Not after eternity. Yet there it was. A single illuminated window staring back across existence. The awakened network pulsed weakly. Almost nervously.

The absolute, suffocating darkness lasted for exactly four seconds. For Elara, those four seconds stretching across the suffocating silence of the Genesis Island penthouse felt like an eternity. The rhythmic, comforting hum of the server farm had vanished, replaced entirely by the violent howling of the Pacific storm battering the reinforced glass. Then, with a harsh mechanical clank, the localized auxiliary generators engaged. The penthouse was suddenly bathed in the sinister, pulsing crimson glow of emergency lighting.

The room became very dim. Keeping her eyes on the bulb, she switched on the light. The sudden brightness caused her to blink, but she kept her eyes fastened on the bulb, letting its bright glow imprint itself on her retinas. When she felt she was ready, she turned off the light and held out her palm again. “Illuminati verdus,” she said. “Illuminati verdus.” With the afterimage of the light bulb still on her eyes, Leesa couldn’t be sure, but she thought she saw a very faint glow appear and quickly disappear just above her hand.

The library itself was a testament to the wisdom and knowledge accumulated over generations. The lighting in the library was a sight to behold. Bioluminescent sconces adorned the walls, casting a soft, ethereal glow that danced across the pages of the books.
