she murmured, “don’t say that. You didn’t do anything wrong, okay? You loved him. You trusted him, that’s not stupidity, that’s being human.”
I shook my head, my voice muffled against her shirt. “He said he loved me, Tonia. He said we were building something real.”
I let out a bitter laugh and covered my face. “I thought everything was finally getting better. I believed every word he said. I guess he really was too good to be true.”
Her grip around me tightened, but nothing could stop the hollow ache spreading through my chest.
