The Binding

Elias collapses forward into me, dead weight, bringing both of us to our knees in the damp grass. My ears are ringing, my heart feels like it’s been used as a drum, and the glyph in my palm is a burning brand. For one horrible second, everything goes completely, utterly silent.
No Haldor, no cellar, no door.
Just the sound of our breathing and the faint rustle of leaves.
Then the world rushes back in tightly through my ears.
“SAXA!”
