***Ezekiel’s POV*** I sat in my office looking down at the paperwork in front of me. The same paper had been in front of me for the last half hour but I couldn’t bring myself to comprehend what I was reading. My mind wandered more and more lately. In my dreams, I found myself back at the High Council, roaming the corridors of castle. It was a never ending maze and at every turn I could smell him; fresh baked bread and basil.

Am I supposed to read something in between? But how can I when I don't even have any idea of what's there to read? "What should I do?" I asked in a low voice. Ezekiel straightened his back as he let go of my hand. He averted his eyes in front of us. "Normally, it's best to hide you at times like this." A small yet dangerous smirk appeared on the side of his lips. "But who does that kind of stupidity?" He averted his eyes on me again. "Baby, there's no Queen who hides. And I would never make you that kind of Queen." Ezekiel lifted his hand to caress my cheek. "We have a hell to conquer, and that's how we'll work."

The old man seemed genuinely surprised. "I've wanted nothing." His eyes drifted back toward me. "The city accepted her." My shoulder warmed instantly. The mark. Not burning. Listening.
