Chapter 16 Ezekiel pumped all of his energy into his lungs and legs. Even so, he had barely made it a few yards before the sounds of pursuit were gaining on his heels. Ezekiel had knew that he could never have out run the lions on foot but he hadn't really planned to.

The stench of suffering. He arrives then. Ezekiel. He walks in like a shadow given flesh. His skin clings to his bones, his steps uneven, the air around him sickly and heavy. The stench of rot trails behind him. “Ezekiel.” Master’s voice cuts through the room like a blade. “What is the meaning of this?” There’s anger there, but beneath it is a tremor of concern. Ezekiel falls to his knees instantly. “My Lord, I apologize for appearing before you in this state. Your eyes deserve only the best.”

Ezekiel gave a cold stare that seemed to make anybody docile in his presence. Ezekiel strode towards the back entrance, and as they stepped outside, a breathtaking scene unfolded before them. The grass was awash in shades of lilac and violet, creating a surreal and stunning landscape. The trees towered overhead, their beauty surpassing those of the ones outside. And ahead lay a vast pool, its shimmering waters reflecting the vibrant hues of the surroundings.

How could a mere werewolf like me, who didn't even have a wolf, act so presumptuous in her presence? ‘‘Tch, whatever. You're hopeless anyway,’’ Ezekiel suddenly spoke again, retracting his gaze away from me. As much as his words pained me, I could only grit my teeth in response. If I was as strong as him, would the Goddess forsake me? Would I even have the confidence to stand straight in her presence? Ezekiel then stared at the sacred statue. He didn't move for a moment until he finally pulled out something from his pocket. It was a piece of paper and some ancient words were written on it.

Ezekiel stunned in reverse, letting the transformation finish and the agony die down. The sound of blasts sounded into the desolated desert. Abbadon searched for the reason for the blasts and saw one by one, her portals were shutting. Someone opened a new portal underneath Ezekiel's foot, and he fell directly into it to drop out from another on the sky. He landed yards from her, and that maddened him as his Queen was left without security.

Waiting. And in the center of the chamber, slumped against the stone floor, was Ezekiel. He sat with his knees drawn up, head clutched in both hands, fingers buried in his hair. His shoulders shook—not with sobs, but with something else. Tremors. The kind that came from inside. "That's tragic," he whispered. "That's tragic. That's tragic." The same words, over and over. A litany. A wound. Nathan raised a hand, signaling the guards to hold. They spread out behind him, lanterns raised, hands on weapons—but there was nothing to fight. Nothing to see. Just a broken prophet murmuring to the empty air.

He quickly masked his expression, but I knew he felt it too. "What are you doing here?" Zayn demanded, stepping back from me and shielding me from Ezekiel's view. "I came to see the miracle for myself," Ezekiel said, glancing at the naked Omegas on the floor. "But looking at this... the sky is still dark over this mountain, and you still have that disgusting hunger. I don't think anything has changed." Ezekiel ignored Zayn’s murderous glare and walked straight toward me. He took off his own fur-lined coat and wrapped it gently around my shivering shoulders.

Looking at Ezekiel, he called out, “Sir.” “Speak.” The disciple approached Ezekiel, whispering in his ear, “I have something I’d like to report.” “Cut to the chase already.” “It’s about the situation outside.” The disciple lowered his voice. Upon hearing this, Ezekiel listened intently. However, at that moment, he was struck in the chest by a palm and sent flying. Almost immediately, he was pulled back by a powerful force. The disciple covered his mouth. After struggling for a brief moment, he stopped breathing.

I recognized some whom I know but am only partially familiar with. Whenever Eva calls for me, any Order members escort me. I remember everything: the space, the smell, and the depression.
