“What the hell am I meant to do with this?” The monk’s eyes burned with irritation at his swear word and Eli gulped, whispering an apology. Turning away from him for a moment, he returned with a large bible and plopped it on the desk. “Open the book of proverbs chapter 30, verse 8. And read it aloud.” It took a moment for Eli to find it, but when he did, he cleared his throat and croaked. “‘Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither povery nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.”
