When she turned to face us, the breath left my lungs in a sharp, painful gasp. She didn't have a face. Where her features should have been, there was only a smooth, blank sheet of white parchment, save for two dark, horizontal slits where the eyes should be. Behind those slits, I could see the frantic, microscopic movement of thousands of tiny, metal type-set characters, constantly shifting and re-aligning to spell out the words she was about to speak. "The Default is a typo," the Faceless Author said, her parchment skin tightening as the metal letters behind her eyes spelled out her disapproval. "And a typo is simply an asset that hasn't been properly audited."

She pulled her reluctant daughter in for an embrace as her heartbeat intensified its thudding. ********** The breeze blew past Rosaleen's face in the hotness of the empty classroom. She flipped over few pages of the book lying on her thighs before she heard footsteps. " .... been looking all over for you, Rosa," Ronnie grinned and sat beside her, ignoring her contemptuous glare. He peeked into her book and drew a sharp gasp. " You're a fan, too?" Rosaleen nodded and gave an uncertain smile, one that found its way out of nowhere, one she reserved for moments she didn't know.

I asked. He glanced at his book and closed it. The front cover was that of a woman and a man facing each other with a sick expression of being in love with each. There were words written on it— the title and the author's name but I couldn't read it. Not because I did not want to, but because I did not know how. The expression on my face became sour. Never fond of love after my rejection. They were only for mates who accepted each other regardless of their status in the pack.

She tiptoed towards him, she extended her hand and she was about to get the book when it was too late because the book had already fallen. It creates a sound, she looks at the prince if he wakes up but he's not. She continued to get the book, she bent and held it. She picked up the book and was about to stand straight when she saw the crown prince's face, she stopped and then looked at him. His legs cross, he looks so elegant in his royal black suits. His hair was down and messy, it's her first time seeing his hair messy. Usually he's hair is well styled, his lips are pinkish. Damn did he use something on his face? Why is he so blessed? My face went all red as I realized what happened and then quickly helped pick up the books from the floor and give them back to him. But when I lifted my face to look at the guy, I was almost mesmerized by his princely face. It was slow motion when I gazed at his eyes—as if time itself gave me plenty of chance to get more mesmerized by the gorgeous man who was frowning in front of me.

She was obviously having fun and was facing away from me. I decided to go and meet the girl and talk to her. Without hesitation, I headed to where she was lying and as I approached her, the title of the book she was reading caught my eye. The title of the book was 'How To Make Demons Your Best Friend.' I stopped in my track and gazed at the title of the book for a couple of seconds before I continued walking toward her. As I got to where she lay, I stood a few inches from her head and stared at her. Suddenly, she flinched as she noticed my presence. She closed the book and sat up. Then, she raised her head to look at me and we made eye contact.

I replied, my voice filled with guilt. Alex opened his mouth to say more, but his aunt interrupted. “It’s time you all know the truth” She said as she opened the book, flipping through its fragile, yellowed pages until she landed on an illustration. The image depicted a man so handsome and ethereal he seemed almost unreal. His golden hair glowed like sunlight, his piercing blue eyes radiated power, and his angelic face was adorned with a serene, yet arrogant, expression. Ashley, Alaina, and Mia couldn’t help but gasp in awe.
