His geometric armor began to sprout irregular, organic growths. His white-hole light turned the warm, imperfect color of a sunset. "SYSTEM... ERROR..." he gasped, his form beginning to dissolve into a cloud of real, organic ash. "THE... VARIABLE... IS... TOTAL..." The Shadow exploded, but not into fire. He exploded into a Wave of Texture. The wave swept upward through the roots, through the Spire, and out across the Emerald Sea.

It touched Morat's shield, passed through it, and then reached the shadows. The effect was instantaneous. The first shadow shrieked, struggling, but slowly its form began to fade. "NO! THIS IS NOT THE END I WANTED!" But the three other shadows stopped attacking. They stood still, their smoky bodies beginning to glow from within with a soft white light. Hoarse voices emerged, clearer now: "Thank... you..." "I'm... tired..." "Good... bye..." They did not vanish. They faded, turning into particles of light that ascended, passing through the stone ceiling, and disappeared.

It twisted into a dark, screaming shadow. "If I can’t have the fuel, I’ll take the explosion!" Suit-Gabe roared. The shadow—her own broken soul from before—lunged at June.
