Where they surrendered the part of themselves even war could not scorch: softness. She had never believed them. Those stories were remnants of older times, when dragons ruled openly and magic threaded through the bones of the world. Silly things. Fairy tales. But standing here—surrounded by gold and heat and the scent of Rhazien—she knew this was real. This wasn’t legend. It was declaration. And he had made it for her.

The moaning from the room intensifies and when i could no longer take it, I brought out my headphone and played my favorite sound. “Oh! This is helpful.” I said as I melted in the magic of the song. My face felt clearer and I decided I needed a mind stimulation. I brought out my laptop and scrolled through one of my favorite web novel stories. I opened the most intriguing book cover only to close and scroll past it, Totally boring and cliche! How could a female lead be that gullible! The storyline is unbelievable. I opened many more synopsis but, more of those stories popped up, the exact ones I hate. Damn these authors.Always giving the female leads up for ridicule just as I was in my real

But there was no one to talk to, no footsteps, no cold voice ordering her around. She finished her food, pushed her plate away, and sighed. Now what? She didn’t want to just sit around. So she wandered the halls until she reached the library. The tall shelves greeted her like old friends, rows and rows of books stacked neatly under warm lights. She walked along them, fingers gliding lightly over the spines. The last book she had borrowed was already finished. Today, she wanted something different. Something lighter. Maybe fantasy this time. She pulled out a novel with a cover painted in gold and emerald green, dragons, magic, a girl with a sword. Perfect.

“She’s Queen, mated to King Edric. But she has no wolf. Yet she commands magic unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Fire. Water. She’s strong, but it’s more than strength. It’s like the realm itself listens to her.” Kala paused. I didn’t know what magic smelled like, but this room felt like it had some. I stepped inside slowly, looking around like the brave warrior princess I pretended to be when I played with my dolls. So many books. Stacks and stacks of them, tall and wide and thick and dusty. I touched one of the shelves, my fingers dragging over the wooden surface until I stopped in front of one really old-looking book with gold edges. The title was shiny. “The Flare Witches.” Oooooh. That sounded cool.

The usual genres one would expect to find at a book fair, too: history, fiction, non-fiction, folklore, fantasy, fairytales… everything. I had wondered and hoped that I could find the fiction book about the female alpha, but there was nothing of the sort to be found. I would rummage through the boxes each day, hoping to find something, but nothing. Nothing at all. Picking up a large pile of books from a box, I strolled towards a table that was getting empty to fill it up again.

Eventually, with my arms full, I found Nicholas still in the fantasy section. He was engrossed in a thick hardcover, his brow furrowed in concentration. “Find something good?” I asked, approaching him. “Possibly. But I think you might like this one.” He handed me a paperback with an image of a woman wielding a sword on the front. I read the title aloud. “‘The Lycan Chronicles.’ Hmm, never heard of it.” “It’s a fantasy series,” he explained, still flipping through his own book. “Great world-building, complex characters...” He glanced up and smirked. “Plus, it has some... steamy scenes.”
