She wheezed in pain, sweat drenching her back as he kept searching through the shelf but the at the end, all the books landed on the floor and she slammed her hand on the shelf and cursed, “damn you, demon fire. Don’t worry, I shall claim that throne and you shall be mine, you must be mine,” she panted and staggered back to her previous seat. Her head was throne back once more as the burnt marks on neck glowed softly, making her grunt in pain and her hair gummed on her neck because of her sweats.

He would have, right? I shook my head again and concentrated on the book placed on my lap. It was one of the British, historical romance fictions set during the World War Two. I had randomly picked it up at the bookstore and somehow felt myself drawn towards it. Sappy novel with mopey dialogues and dragged out bits, it still provided me with much needed solace.

SHARON’S POV I never imagined I would step foot into the royal library for anything other than sneaking in to read fantasy novels I had no business touching. The irony wasn’t lost on me as I sat at the long mahogany table now, a stack of heavy history books in front of me, none of which had dragons, witches, or star-crossed lovers on the covers. The head historian, Elder Marcellus, cleared his throat for what felt like the hundredth time. The man was ancient, his white beard reached almost to his stomach, and he had the habit of adjusting his spectacles every two sentences even when they didn’t need adjusting.

Not just big and then empty. I dragged my shocked feet towards the rows of shelves. The first, the second, third and more. All in different categories and genres. True life histories about wolves in one, histories about mates and their bonds in another, history about were-wars in one, histories about the rulers, their accomplishments and their deaths in another. And it went on like that until I got to the last row that got me grinning like a child who was just given a candy. Romance. A huge, wide shelf of romance books, soft, dark, extra dark... I had no idea Alexander would have a collection like this, ever.

He takes it and scans the lines quickly. “Where did you get this?” I ask. “My parents collected books from all over the world. I drop the medium size book on the table and let them feast their eyes on what is clearly written on the front page. “History of Werewolf and Lycan Magics.” Ha! Cain’s smirk falls and Safira chuckles incredulously. She drops her book on the table and I feel the smile on my face fall off. “History of Werewolf and Lycan Magics.” Cain drops his too and a pit forms in my stomach. “History of Werewolf and Lycan Magics.” I let out the most frustrated groan I ever have and Safira cackles.

The ceiling above shimmered with faint enchantments—twinkling stars embedded in glass and crystal that pulsed like a living night sky. She trailed her fingers along the spines, marveling at the titles: The Lost Histories of Astira, The Blood of Forgotten Queens, Mystic Bonds and Magical Lineage, The Vaelthorne Chronicles… That last one gave her pause. She pulled it free and settled into the nearest high-backed chair, curling into its velvet seat like she belonged there. For hours, Seraphine read. This' where the meeting would be held. The small library at the wall is stocked with a few interesting books to use and pass some time. I pick up a book that attracts my attention, from a glimpse of it, I detect that it's a romance fantasy. The gold and red combination of the cover with the stylish golden fonts captivates me, the front has a young girl holding on her palms what looks like a magical spindle, with a glowing light around it. The title goes, "When you're alone." A subscript writes, "A supermodel story of the girl who single handedly achieves the most difficult goals."
