I haven’t had time to read anything except for my mother’s journals and the medicine books from the coven, so it was a pleasant change to hear something different. It was as if we were gossiping about someone else’s life. In the books, we didn’t have to worry about real-world problems; any conflict or issue was not ours to resolve. The pages gave us something to be excited about.

Eventually, with my arms full, I found Nicholas still in the fantasy section. He was engrossed in a thick hardcover, his brow furrowed in concentration. “Find something good?” I asked, approaching him. “Possibly. I read the title aloud. “‘The Lycan Chronicles.’ Hmm, never heard of it.” “It’s a fantasy series,” he explained, still flipping through his own book. “Great world-building, complex characters...” He glanced up and smirked. “Plus, it has some... steamy scenes.”
