Despite the strangeness of the situation, Melia found herself finding his astonishment rather amusing. "Vampire..." he murmured, his gaze shifting towards Melia. "Perfect!" he exclaimed, throwing his arms up in a rare moment of elation. "It explains everything. It explains why you're still here, alive. Why... Or maybe... How do you become a vampire?" he asked abruptly, his curiosity getting the best of him. Melia arched an eyebrow and crossed her arms. "I'm not going to tell you that," she replied firmly, her voice as cool as a winter breeze.

Blood seeped through the fabric, warm against my shaking hands. I swallowed hard. “Okay. First step: stop bleeding. Second step: don’t panic. Third step: find magical vampire first-aid kit.” A drawer slid open with a loud shunk. I yelped. “BRENDA! That is NOT helping!” Inside the drawer sat a crystal bottle full of thick dark liquid. I stared. I blinked. I stared again. “…Is that blood?” The lights flickered once. Yes. “Is it vintage? Like… does blood expire?”

I can hear Isabel scream, and I shout at Anderson, “Go help her!” But he’s already rushing towards her, snarling. I look at Beth. “Take him! Go!” I jump at the three men coming towards us, and my teeth are out as I pierce one of their necks. The deadly paralyzing agent that only vampires have injects into the enemy’s blood stream, making him fall onto the ground. The other two don’t stop, moving towards me, fur sprouting from their body. I tackle one from his midsection, making him fall back, and I stomp on his face before jumping off and kicking the other in his groin. Twice.

The people at the inn will notice that something is wrong. I understood what it meant when I saw Ryson drinking blood from that maid. Feeding on humans. On weak people. I had read too many books, watched too many movies, heard too many stories about myths and legends, liked fiction very much. Where humans and vampires didn't get along. Most stories ended in romance, hate, war and death. I wondered how my story will be like seeing that my life is now twisted with these creatures. Vampires. Just saying the name creeps me out. Chills running up and down my spine like waves on the sea.
