Chapter 6

Flashback

Today is my graduation day and my parents will not come because they’re busy. I should not expect something from them because the moment they decided to separate, they had already forgotten about my existence. I should be happy because I survived my high school days. A new journey will come and I know it’s just the beginning. I should prepare myself for that.

“Let’s give her applause. The summa cum laude of the batch 2017-2018, Kylie Elianna Velasquez!” I smiled and stood up in my seat. Everyone cheered for me and I can’t help but get emotional. My classmates were always there whenever I feel pressure from my dad.

They knew how my dad pressure me but my classmates were always there to comfort me that I had already done my best and it was to my dad if he’ll acknowledge my achievement or not and it made me calm. This batch is the best and I will never forget them.

The guest speaker reach out for my hand to get a handshake and when they were about to look for my parents who will wear the medals on my neck, my classmates hurriedly went to the stage and took the medals to the teachers.

“I’m so proud of you, Kyna.” I smiled at Amelia, the magna cum laude of this batch.

“You don’t have to worry. We always got your back,” Brent said which made me cry.

“Goodness, Brent! Why did you make Kyna cry?” Sophia said and pinch Brent’s ear.

“Hey! I didn’t do anything. Ouch!” We all laugh at Brent who’s now about to cry but thankfully, Sophia let his ear now. They wear to me the medals one by one and congratulate me. I appreciate them so much for making me happy. I’ll miss them.

Sooner or later, we will meet again and I promise to myself that once I meet one of them, I can now stand on my feet. The photographer called our attention and gesture us that we’ll be having a picture. We all smiled at the camera but Sophia and Brent grabbed our attention when they still keep on fighting. We laugh at them and let the photographer capture the beautiful moments we made.

“See you soon, classmates! We’ll meet soon after 4 years okay?” Sophia said and we all agreed. 4 years is too long but time flies so fast. I know, we will miss each other but we need to take our paths individually. We need to adapt to the new environment and I hope, everyone can make it in the end.

“Let’s make a promise, we need to graduate in college,” Amelia said. Even if we don’t need to make a promise, I know each and everyone will try their best to survive in the next 4 years. We need to reach our dreams.

“If someone need help, just message us on our accounts,” I reminded them and everyone agreed. We hug each other and I can hear their sobs. My classmates, my family, I will miss you all.

“It’s nice seeing you happy,” Lazarus said that making me laugh.

“I am even though I feel sad a little bit because I’ll miss my classmates,” I said and smile faintly. He messed my hair which made me pout. He always does that! If only I can mess with his hair too, but it’s impossible since he’s so tall.

“That’s life. Everything is temporary but my love for you will be forever.” My forehead creased when I didn’t understand the next word that he said after the temporary.

“What did you say?” I asked but he just shook his head and pats my shoulder.

“That’s what you get when you’re not listening.” I rolled my eyes at him because he was trying to divert the topic. I’m listening to him but his voice became lower as if he’s chewing what he said.

“I’m listening and don’t divert the topic!” I shouted but he just shook his head at me as if he has no plan to repeat what he said. Am I missing something? Since when did he become secretive? Wait, where did that question come from? How did I know that he became secretive?

I’m starting to blabber something that I’m not even sure if it’s true. I mentally shook my head and tilt my head while looking at him, accusing something. I raised my left eyebrow at him but he seems not scared. He even mocked me and made me roll my eyes again at him.

Look how he easily irritates me as if he already knew my attitude and my patience. “You’re angry?” he innocently asked. What a great actor he is? Where is the trophy so that I can award him as best actor?

“Why would I? Aside from teasing me, what talent do you still have?” I asked.

He smiled from ear to ear wherein his white teeth are now visible as if he’s an endorser of a toothpaste. “You want to know?” he asked.

“That’s the reason why I asked, right?” I shook my head and creased my forehead. He walk closer to me until our body touches each other. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him. He’s now leaning himself on me and our face is a few inches away.

His breath hits my face which made me gulp. My heart is now beating so fast that I can’t even breathe properly. Why is my heartbeat became like this? What kind of effect does he have or what kind of illness do I have? Maybe, I needed to go to the hospital tomorrow.

“Scared?” he teased but I didn’t dare to move or speak because I’m too stunned. I am just staring at his crimson eyes who are now looking at me as if I’m the only one he can see. I was surprised when his face approached me until our lips collide.

I slowly close my eyes the moment his lips started to move slowly and I tried to follow them until he pulled away and smiled at me, “That’s my real talent.”
