Dangerous Allure
I drove into town and met Simon at our usual spot, a bar on the edge of the lake.
Simon was already there, nursing a whiskey. We’d been friends since college, thick as thieves through marriages, kids, and messy divorces.
“You look like shit,” he said as I sat down. “What’s eating you?”
I ordered a drink and stared into it for a long moment before answering. “Agatha is cheating on me.”
Simon raised an eyebrow, clearly shocked by my outburst. “You sure?”
“Positive. Perfume on his clothes, hickeys, the whole goddamn cliché.” I took a long sip, letting the burn settle.
