As we pressed on into the unknown, a sense of dread settled over me like a suffocating blanket, filling me with a primal fear unlike anything I had ever known. For in this strange and wondrous place, nothing was as it seemed, and danger lurked around every corner, waiting to claim its next victim. As we walked on, we got closer to a dangerous edge, almost falling into darkness, but holding onto a tiny shred of hope to guide us.

Chapter: 42. ***** Rafa opened his eyes and looked around the room. He was alone, having sent his Betas away, he needed a moment to himself and to speak with Leon. Although, the call left him with a feeling of dread that won't leave even as he stared at the bookshelf holding the keys to the Book of Neer. Though he needed to be rushing over to check and be certain the Book lies safe, he couldn't find himself to get up from the bed. There is this feeling swirling around inside of him, the feeling of Fear and longing. It's not an emotion he can explain but it keeps him rooted on the bed in place as he stares at the bookshelf. The fear of the unknown. Yes, the oldest fear of mankind was the fear of the unknown. And that fear leads the mind to create a name and identify this unknown fear to subjugate and free themselves. But that didn't really matter for me now. I don't care how he would react nor what he is thinking right now, I don't care unless he gets on my way. The heretic looked at me with a crazed smile plastered on his lips. He positioned his greatsword in my direction with one hand.

Noah choked up. Aiden was exasperated by Noah's question. " Do you think this is one of your romance novels where the good girl falls for a bad boy? No, this is my life. The only emotion I ever had towards Dylan was fear. I have been so scared of him that I couldn't think of anything else but to avoid retaliation from him." Aiden put his hand on Noah's face and looked into his eyes. " Noah, fear, and love cannot co-exist. When there is fear, there is no place for love. How can I love Dylan when I can't get rid of my fear of him?" Noah kept his head on Aiden's shoulders. He was still scared he would lose Aiden.

I only watch this in movies, read this in books, and here I am, experiencing all of it. I didn’t know that having this feeling can make you insane. I can’t think straight right now, covered by my thoughts and my emotions. I’m happy at the same time I’m not. Because you are just afraid, whispered the corner of my mind. Am I? Fear can take you down if you let it evade your soul. I’m afraid of how life could change of the unknown, of failure, and what others would think. And I was afraid of taking risks. When I agree with the courtship, I know I will be taking the risk.

She paused, looking out at the horizon of attentive faces. “We are much more afraid of being happy than of suffering. Because suffering is familiar — we have learned how to move through it. Happiness is unknown territory. It’s where we wait for the other shoe to drop. This book is about learning to stay in unknown territory without waiting for catastrophe. It’s about discovering that you can be happy without being wrong for it.” And this third one was a declaration. The passage she chose to read was from the central chapter, the excerpt that had been the hardest and most honest to write:

He stayed where he was, leaning against the counter beside me, close enough that our arms were nearly touching, and drank his tea and looked at the snow, and the silence between us was the kind I had stopped trying to fill. She asked, gesturing to the book with her eyes. Thoughts ran through my mind, those flowing with curiosity and others flowing with fear. I want to know, but I'm afraid of my friends finding out something bad about my kind and deeming me a threat. Casting me out. I don't think I can stomach what it would feel like to see looks of fear on their faces directed to me. With a shaky breath, I nodded in agreement as Remmi opened the book, turning to the very last section of the tome, the one labeled 'Syrens'.

There was also a clicking sound that never seemed to stop. I looked directly at the face of the man but it was just blues out. "Wh... What are you?" I asked out of fear. "Haha. You couldn't tell what I was?" He said. I gulped and turned my gaze to his feet. His feet didn't even touch the floor. I was scared of the question I had asked him. "I am the greatest fear of man. I am that horror that eats mortals up from their bones. I am the fear of the unknown. I am the unknown!" He declared.
