“You called to me, connected to me, and then jumped when I answered.”
“I just didn’t expect…” I trailed off because I sounded stupid even to myself.
“You didn’t expect me to have a voice?” I opened my eyes and watched as the ground bubbled. A woman with green skin and brown flowing hair stepped out of the ground, earning gasps from everyone. She flung out her hand, and the sound bubble, once clear, turned grey. “Now, no one can spy inside.” She winked.
“Mother Gaia.” My grandmother bowed beside me, and I heard everyone else hit the ground, but the goddess’s eyes never shifted from my face.
