"The story between you and me," I said, looking out the window, "ended last winter, along with the child who never had the chance to be born." I stood up, making it clear the visit was over. She did not move. After a long while, as if gathering the last of her strength, she slowly rose to her feet, her steps unsteady.

Their eyes were filled with suspicion and disdain. "This widow and her brother-in-law are being way too intimate. They don't look like normal relatives at all!" "Looking at them now, there's definitely something fishy going on. No wonder Mr. Sinclair refuses to let Verna remarry!" "What Thea just said didn't sound like a lie at all. I bet she was telling the truth!" Craig's expression twisted when the whispers of the crowd reached his ears. He immediately shoved Verna away and barked, "Stop making things worse! Go back to your ward! We are just in-laws. Mind your boundaries!"
