But Maris is lost in communion with the flowers now, murmuring words in a language I don't recognize. The blooms pulse with subtle light, leaning into her touch like cats seeking affection. When she rises, it's to move to a large stone half-buried in the earth nearby. Her hands caress its rough surface, and I swear I see the stone shift slightly beneath her touch, responding just as the tree and flowers did.
