I wonder how much it has changed. Will ‘she’ still be there? I am surprised by my own thoughts; I haven’t thought of Rayne in a long time. Abaddon tilted its head. "No." The answer came softly. Almost kindly. "You only believe you are." The First Memory immediately stepped forward. "Enough." Abaddon became silent. The universe became silent. Everything waited. The First Memory stared directly into the impossible being. For the first time, Nova noticed something strange. Abaddon wasn't looking down on her. It wasn't treating her as lesser. It was treating her as an equal. The realization terrified her. Because it meant the First Memory belonged to a category beyond even the Seven.

Gaia exclaimed, showing off her cheeky smile, making Adzkia chuckle and ruffle Gaia's hair. "Watch out Grandma, you broke your promise. Don't give me or my brother favoritism," Gaia threatened, making Adzkia giggle and cover her mouth with the palm of her hand. "Grandma, be quiet," Gaia said, and Adzkia nodded in return. "Yes, Grandma was a bit off. You're so cute, don't worry, Grandma won't show favoritism, because you're the one who gave Grandma her first taste of having grandchildren," said Adzkia, causing Gaia to smile and hug Adzkia in return.

Which was that the young-black girl who was married to the much older, richer Aaron Miller was only after his money. That was partly why she'd moved. She needed a fresh start, in a place where no one knew of her or her past. Lixon Falls was exactly that. It was a small church town where people cared more about gossip amongst its people than that of strangers. So she'd hardly been surprised when no one recognized her on arrival. She'd known right then and there she'd found the perfect place. "Uhm yeah, sorry. I'm Kayla." She'd responded nervously. She'd never quite had many interactions in her life, she'd never had friends and the only boyfriend she'd ever had was her soon-to-be ex-husband.

Just when she was offering her last prayers to the river goddess, she thought her water broke. It can’t be! She panicked. She was unusually big for someone whose baby was only a six-month-old fetus. She clutched her stomach in pain and was filled with remorse for wanting to end the little one’s life when she thought about killing herself. How could she forget him? She knew it was a boy. She chanted under her breath, distracting herself from the pain that pierced through her body with each contraction. The waters of the Nile shuddered at the sound of the baby’s first cry. The moon emerged out of the clouds wanting to take a peek at the newborn; the first alpha.

She bit at his ear again, this time with more enthusiasm, her spirited growls echoing through the cosmic space. Amani observed, mesmerized, as the two wolves tumbled together, their movements filled with an innocence and joy that seemed to transcend the weight of the world outside. They were free, not yet burdened by the pain and struggle that had brought Amani to this moment. In this place, they were simply Zayn and Seraphine—two halves of a whole, perfectly matched, perfectly content.

At that moment it started to snow, Rose’s favorite season. It was the first snow. Her favorite day of the year. Rosalie had always loved the snow, but her love for the season grew because the snow had led her to meet Hakeem. They would’ve been in their little cottage, celebrating their first baby together. The snow would’ve been the icing on the cake as they enjoyed each other's company. When Hakeem finally looked at her with trembling lips, unable to speak, her heart broke all over again. But, she knew she’d take the bullet all over again.

It was their first night in the new city—a night full of anticipation, mystery, and feelings no one had known before. I have most definitely not heard the stories about their time at Columbia, wild or otherwise. I look at my mate to assess his reaction, but he only appears happy to see her. I try to remain calm.
