The city skyline glittered beyond the tinted windows like distant stars, indifferent to the storm inside me. I needed something to distract me. I needed noise. Smoke. Bodies. Something to drown the echo of her voice calling me a controlling bastard, telling me to fuck myself while she drank my vodka like it was water. I watch him walk away, his tall frame moving with a new kind of energy. What have I just done? I'm supposed to be focused on my revenge. I'm supposed to be focused on my son. I could hear the crack. Then I heard something else. The video on my laptop reached step five. The smiling man held up a bottle of hydrochloric acid. "Now, here's where it gets fun," he said. And from Marcus's phone, from the voice memo, I heard a different voice. A voice I didn't recognize. A voice that said, quietly, into the chaos, "She's going to open YouTube in about thirty seconds. Make sure the recommendation is queued up." I turned around.

"I saw the recordings and videos from the accident. You were telling the truth. I… I never believed you. I wronged you so terribly. I'm begging your forgiveness. Can't we stop the divorce? Can't we try again?" Her eyes shimmered with desperate hope as she looked at me, waiting for an answer. But I shook my head. "Alicia, it's too late. There's nothing left to salvage. I've given it five years of my life, but in the end… this is where we stand." Alicia broke down, sobbing uncontrollably, whispering apologies over and over. "I will never forgive you," I said, then left the room without another glance. The moment I stepped out, a sharp flick landed squarely on my forehead.

​"Leo..." ​The surrounding noise of the night seemed to fade into absolute silence. The muffled, heavy thud of the club music behind the metal doors, the groans of the four men bleeding out on the wet pavement, the quiet drip of rain falling off the brick walls—it all died away. The entire world shrank down to just the two of them standing under the flickering yellow streetlight. ​They simply stared at each other for a full, agonizing minute. Neither of them moved. Neither of them dared to breathe.

He just stood there, head lowered, his expression serious. For a split second, it ignited a little spark of hope in me. Even my cold fingertips began to warm. However, in the very next moment, I was let down. “Trisha, just hand over the necklace.” The humiliation hit all at once. Everything I had been holding back finally broke. With all the strength I had, I shoved Dawn off me, rushed forward, and slapped Justin hard across the face. At the same time, Dawn let out a sharp cry, instantly drawing everyone’s attention.
