I did read one where a new, aggressively chaotic character kept deliberately setting off Fippy to 'test' him, which created this exhausting cycle of violence and recovery. It was less about them fighting and more about the emotional drain on everyone trying to protect the new guy from himself and from Flippy. The conflict was the unsustainable situation, not a battle to be won. Most writers seem more interested in the quiet, fragile peace between his two states than in manufacturing big showdowns.

I kinda hesitate even calling that a ship. Not my thing, personally. The whole appeal of 'Hetalia' for me was the humor and historical references, and Flippy feels like a bit part meant for a gag. So watching someone try to graft a whole emotional journey onto him seems… forced. Like, I've seen authors start with a premise of Flippy getting therapy or learning to control his rage, which can be a solid start for growth, but it often just circles back to him needing to be saved or tamed by another character. That dynamic doesn't feel like growth; it feels like a coping mechanism. The more successful fics I've encountered don't focus on romance at all. They're about him navigating a world that doesn't understand his triggers, or finding a weird peace with his own nature, maybe through art or something completely unexpected. That's where the real emotional texture is, not in a ship.

Honestly, it's rare to find a Flippy pairing that doesn't end up flattening him into just the 'damaged' half of a relationship. Growth should be messy and internal, not just a reward for finding love. Some of the best character studies I've read have him bonding with other characters who have their own violent pasts, like maybe Germany or Prussia, not in a romantic way but in a mutually-recognizing-one-another kind of way. That feels more authentic to whatever emotional core a personified flipbook could possibly have.
