She hardly knew how to respond. “It is a great pleasure,” she said. “And we thank you for your graciousness,” Caleb said. “Are you a king?” Scarlet stepped forward and asked. “Is there a real princess here?” The king looked down and broke into uproarious laughter, louder and deeper than before. “Well now, I am a king, yes indeed—but there is no princess here I’m afraid. Just us men. But perhaps you shall rectify that, my beauty!” he said with a laugh, and took two steps forward, picked up Scarlet, and spun her around. “And what might your name be?”

My eyes narrowed. "You knew this was going to happen." His expression hardened. "No." "You told me not to leave your room." Silence. "Kaizen." Another silence. "I knew something was wrong." The answer sent a chills through me. A loud bang rattled the hallway. Both of us jumped. Someone was trying doors. Room by room. Getting closer. The confident campus king vanished completely, In his place stood someone else. Someone dangerous…. Someone scared…. Someone prepared…. Without warning, he grabbed my wrist.

With a quick flick of her wrist, the dark tendril wrapped around the King’s neck and squeezed tightly. “Like I said, it’s not personal…” the Queen said darkly. “It’s business.” With those words left in the air, the tendrils squeezed even tighter as the King’s wolf whimpered in despair and then I heard a cracking sound. My heart dropped when the King’s body returned to his human form, and he remained lifeless. The tendrils dropped him to the ground. I screamed in horror; the King was dead!

You won't be an acting queen, is that taken?" Elder Thomas couldn't hide his joyous relief as he seized the opportunity. "Good! You heard that, Melina.
