I made another mad dash, with Nyx right behind me. We finally found refuge against a scarecrow, our chests heaving as we caught our breath. But the scarecrow blinked at me, and suddenly, it sprang to life, jumping down from its post, brandishing a machete, and making a beeline for me. Nyx and I shrieked and fled in opposite directions. I sprinted to the right, heart racing, desperately trying to put distance between me and the scarecrow. I stumbled upon a darkened area in a field and dove into the bushes, hoping to evade him.

I wanted something that’d scare off the embarrassment of keeling over more times than I actually stood up. “Nothing.” I collected the drinks from Jared to give him enough room to hand in the tickets. I grabbed a mouthful of popcorn only for my hands to find Jared’s. His grip on it was so tight that I had to glance at him. “Jer, are you okay?” I rubbed the back of his hand soothingly. They were cold and soft, a strange combination, and soon we were out of the gate, walking further and further away from it until we reached a clearing. My heart picked up a little. Was she the mole? Was this an ambush? What if someone was going to kill me? Why was I letting her take me this far? Then she stopped and so did I when I saw what was in front of me a feet away. Right in the middle of the space around us was a scarecrow. Or something that should have been a scarecrow. But it wasn’t.

Before I could move, my foot got stuck between the roots. “Oh, now you had to be stuffed!” “Hailey, look out!!” Jace screamed and as I looked up, I saw the rabbit monster’s foot on me...closing in.

He must have kept his eyes on me, waiting for me to be alone. Pulling myself from my shock, I spun to the metal door. I tried the handle. My heart literally stopped beating before pounding in my ears. Scared I pulled the handle knowing it wouldn't move. A crude squeal through my throat in dread. My body was covered with goosebumps when I felt something crawling on my legs. I glanced down, squealing. It was pitch black. I looked up, jerking my feet to get rid of the thing which I couldn't see. The street lights were off.
