Sinopsis "Uma!" seruku lantang, memanggil nama mantan istriku yang nampak tergesa-gesa itu. Uma berhenti sejenak, dan menoleh kearahku. "Maaf, ada yang bisa saya bantu?" ucapnya formal. Seolah kami tidak pernah saling kenal. "Apa kabarmu?" tanyaku basa-basi. "Oh, baik, saya baik-baik saja," jawabnya canggung. Tatap matanya datar, tak ada keramahan di sana. "Anak-anak ---" Belum sempat kuselesaikan ucapanku, Uma sudah memotongnya. "Maaf saya buru-buru, Pak. Ada pasien yang mengalami pendarahan, yang harus segera mendapat tindakan." Uma segera berlalu dan meninggalkan aku begitu saja. Uma pasti malas menjawab pertanyaan basa basiku, karena setelah bercerai, kami benar-benar putus komunikasi. Tak ada lagi nafkah untuk anak-anak, atau perhatian sebagai ayah. Bahkan sekedar bertanya kabaar pun, tak pernah kulakukan. Aku sudah menelantarkan mereka. Melihat Uma yang sekarang membuatku dilanda penyesalan. Wanita yang dulu rela meninggalkan profesinya demi sepenuhnya mengabdi kepada-ku itu, kini bertransformasi menjadi wanita karier yang sukses. Sebagian rakyat desa ikut hangus bersama rumah-rumah mereka. “Akan kubesarkan dan kugembleng bayi titisan ini menjadi seorang pendekar besar. Biarlah kelak dia sendiri yang akan menuntut balas atas kematian kedua orang tua dan semua warga desanya,” ucap Dato Hongli dengan suara bergetar karena menanggung gelombang amarah yang membahana dalam dadanya terhadap gerombolan durjananya La Afi Sangia. Sang mantan jenderal perang Kekaisaran Dinasti Ming (Ming Chao) yang sudah berusia hampir setengah abad itu berjongkok dan mengangkat tubuh sang bayi. “Akan kuberi kau nama La Mudu, si yang terbakar,” ucapnya dengan suara setengah bergumam kepada si bayi, sebelum ia mengangkat tubuh bayi tinggi-tinggi dengan kedua tangannya sembari berseru dengan suara membahana, “Aku bersumpah untuk menggembleng dia menjadi seorang pendekar besar yang akan menumpas segala bentuk kedzoliaman di atas jagat raya ini…!! Wahai Dewata Agung….kabulkan keinginanku ini….!! Kabulkan…wahai…Dewata Aguuung….!!” Dewata Agung tentu mendengar permohonannya dan seolah jagat raya pun ikut mengamini. Cahaya petir menghiasa angkasa lalu disusul oleh suara gemuruh guntur yang bersahut-sahutan. Tak lama kemudian hujan deras turun mengguyur bumi yang nestapa. Tangis sang bayi malang, La Mudu, tiba-tiba pecah. Suara tangisannya yang di tengah perkampungan senyap yang telah menjadi ladang pembantaian keji membuat perasaan Dato Hongli tersayat pilu.
